Legislators, prepare the economy of insurance credit scoring battle
DOVER, Del. — A federal law, the Fair Credit Reporting Act of 1970 authorizes the use of credit reports, insurance underwriting.
General, known as “credit scoring”, insurers are using the rating is based on consumers’ credit to write reports and new car owners’ insurance policies, to renew and rates set by politicians.
They believe, people with good credit histories are more cautious and responsible, and probably fewer rights for loss of files through insurance.
Proponents say that the process is beneficial because people with a credit rating higher tend to pay less for reporting.
Critics say the system is unfair, unreliable and has a negative impact on ethnic minorities and low-income people.
State Senator Margaret Rose Henry, D-Wilmington is a detractor.
She tried to eliminate credit scoring in Delaware two years ago, just to see, is not a measure in the Senate by one vote.
It is also trying again this year with Senate Bill 2 Insurance Commissioner Matthew S. Indeed, arises behind the action.
If SB 2 is, quite rightly, it would be banned in credit scoring of the issuance, renewal and risk assessment for auto insurance, home owner “insurance, mobile home owners’ insurance Non-commercial and home insurance policies for fire protection personal or family.
“Human beings have be responsible for a bad credit rating for a variety of reasons,” said Senator Henry. “But that does not mean they are not good or the driver is concerned about their homeland.
